Starburst + dbt Workshop: Building the New Data Stack

A modern data architecture thrives when each tier is powered by technologies engineered specifically for their role. While dedicated tools handle ingestion, others are designed to model and refine data into reliable business assets. Combining a high-performance, distributed execution engine with a modular transformation framework creates pipelines that are more agile, resilient, and cost-effective.

Join Starburst technical expert Michael Markieta for a practical, 60-minute hands-on workshop exploring how Starburst and dbt integrate to form a modern, decoupled lakehouse architecture.

During this interactive technical walkthrough, attendees will explore the design of a medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold), implement transformation models directly in dbt, and run distributed execution workflows powered by the Starburst query engine.

What You’ll Discover:

• Native Open Table Format Support: Learn how pairing dbt with Starburst streamlines data modeling on open table formats like Apache Iceberg, avoiding vendor lock-in and proprietary constraints.
• Federated Cross-Source Modeling: Leverage Starburst’s federation engine to model across disparate, distributed databases and cloud storage layers without unnecessary data movement.
• Resilient Medallion Architecture: Build, test, and maintain structured data pipelines that progress smoothly from raw data ingestion to high-performance analytics layers.
• AI-Ready Analytics Foundations: Establish governed, consistent data transformations that provide high-quality context for downstream business intelligence and enterprise AI initiatives.

Attendees will leave this workshop with actionable, hands-on experience connecting dbt to Starburst, orchestrating complex transformations across distributed data landscapes, and modernizing pipeline engineering without sacrificing platform optionality.
